US President Donald Trump has expressed hope for a ‘very good relationship’ with China under his administration. He also stressed on ‘fairness’ in the trade sector. NDTV reported.

He expressed this hope while joining a video call at the World Economic Forum held in Davos, Switzerland on Thursday (January 23) local time.

In a virtual speech, Trump said, ‘He (Xi Jinping) called me. I see it very well. I think our relationship will be very good.’

Describing the trade relationship with China as ‘unfair’, Trump said, ‘America does not want to take any advantage but wants fairness.’

Trump also criticized the Biden administration for the trade deficit between the two countries getting ‘out of control’. He said, ‘We have a huge deficit with China. Biden has let it get out of control…it’s just an unfair relationship. We have to make it fair. We don’t have to make it extraordinary, we have to make it fair.’

Trump also noted that the United States has a huge deficit in its relations with many countries, especially with countries in Asia. He stressed the need to address this imbalance.

Despite the trade problems, Trump praised Chinese President Xi. He described their relationship as generally positive.
