Turkey is ready to provide any assistance to resolve the ongoing conflict in the Democratic Republic of Congo between Rwanda and Congo if they agree, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said.

Erdogan made the remarks at a joint press conference with Rwandan President Paul Kagame in the capital Ankara on Thursday.

Erdogan said, “We see this visit as a new milestone to deepen our cooperation. Rwanda is an African country that is often cited as an example of political stability and economic development model. And Kagame’s ‘visionary leadership’ played an important role in this success.”

Kagame praised Turkey’s mediation efforts. Regarding Erdogan’s efforts, he said, “You have played a role in mediating in various conflicts by bringing Somalia and Ethiopia together. This is very commendable. Such initiatives have left a positive mark in the region. Considering our mutual experience, we are happy to see you as our chosen partner.’

Meanwhile, according to an announcement from Ankara, Ethiopia-Somalia will start technical talks with the assistance of Turkey in late February 2025 and conclude them within four months. It was also said that they will put aside differences of opinion and controversial issues. It was also reported that the two countries agreed to move decisively towards prosperity.

Several agreements were also signed between the two leaders on the same day. These agreements include a Memorandum of Understanding between the Rwanda Broadcasting Agency (RBA) and Turkey’s national broadcaster, the Turkish Radio and Television Corporation (TRT), on cooperation in radio and television, a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the investigation of civil aircraft accidents and serious incidents, a Memorandum of Understanding between Turkey and Rwanda in the field of media and communications, and a cooperation agreement between the Turkish Presidency of Defense Industries and the Rwandan Ministry of Defense.
