Chinese President Xi Jinping has called for an end to the war in Ukraine and a ceasefire in Gaza.
He made the call during a meeting with Lula da Silva, the host of the just-concluded G20 summit in Rio on Tuesday (November 19), Xinhua reported.
The report said that Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva also shared the same views with Xi on the issue. He also highlighted that they have proposed a joint roadmap for peace in Ukraine.
Xi said Ukraine will pave the way for a political solution to the crisis.
He called for a ceasefire and an end to the fighting in Gaza as soon as possible.
The China-Brazil peace mediation roadmap on Ukraine, which has been supported by China’s allies Russia, has been rejected by Kiev and its Western backers.
The joint statement of the summit called for a complete ceasefire in Gaza and Lebanon. Where Israel also called for a halt to operations against Iran-backed Hezbollah.
On Wednesday, the UN Security Council voted on a resolution calling for an immediate, unconditional and permanent ceasefire in Gaza, but it was vetoed by Israel’s ally the United States.
