At least eight people, including the leader of Hezbollah, were killed in an Israeli attack in southern Lebanon.

The country’s security sources told Reuters this information on Wednesday.

Citing security sources and Lebanese government media, Reuters also reported that five people were killed in the attack in the border village of Tair Harfa. At least three more were killed shortly afterwards in an attack on a restaurant in the border town of Nakura.’

Iran-backed Hezbollah said it fired dozens of rockets at the Kiryat Shmona border in northern Israel early Wednesday in response to a deadly Israeli airstrike on the southern Lebanese village of Hebariyeh a day earlier.

Israel’s emergency services said a factory worker was killed by a Hezbollah rocket in Kiryat Shmona. A warning siren sounded in the area before the rocket attack, but the loss of life could not be avoided.

After Hezbollah’s attack on Kiryat Shmona, Israel again attacked Hezbollah’s alleged targets in southern Lebanon.

Israel and Hezbollah have been firing at each other along Lebanon’s southern border since Israel’s war in Gaza began in October last year.
