The former head of the country’s navy, Admiral Zwei Win Myint, has been arrested for disobeying the orders of Myanmar’s junta chief Aung Hlaing. On Monday (July 29), Myanmar’s media Irrawaddy reported the information.

According to the report, Mint was arrested on the orders of Min Aung Hlaing, the head of the country’s junta government, on July 8. He was reportedly arrested for disobeying orders from the Myanmar junta.

Amid the ongoing conflict across Myanmar, the junta chief ordered the attack when members of the Arakan Army (AA) took refuge in various hotels along Ngapali Beach in Thandwi area of Rakhine state. But Admiral Win Myint disobeyed the order of the junta. After that, he resigned from the post of naval chief.

A Navy official, on condition of anonymity, told Irrawaddy that the AA troops were stationed next to the hotels on Nagapali beach. There were also snipers. Min Aung Hlaing ordered their removal.

The Navy chief also agreed. His proposal, however, was to use artillery to corner the AA men before landing troops on the beach by boat. But Hlaing did not agree to that proposal. He feared that hotels would be damaged if artillery was used.

However, the Navy officer said, “If we had gone to Nagapali beach with only boats without the use of cannons, then we would all have died.”

Many tycoons associated with Myanmar’s military have luxury hotels and resorts on Ngapali Beach. There are at least 64 hotels most of which they own. Before this, Junta chief Hlaing did not even agree to drop bombs in Thandwi. Because, his wife Keiyu Keiyu Hlele was born in this area.
