Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni discussed the Ukraine and Gaza conflict with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Meloni’s office said in a statement that the Italian prime minister spoke with the Chinese president about various important issues in the world, starting from the Ukraine war, the Middle East crisis. They also talked about rising tensions in the Indo-Pacific.

Earlier last weekend, Meloni signed a trade agreement with the Chinese Prime Minister.

Meloni and Xi Jinping met on Monday. There, Maloney said, there is growing insecurity at the international level, where China has an important role as a mediator.

Earlier this month, China initiated talks between various factions of Hamas and Fatah. It was agreed that they would form an interim national government in post-war Gaza.

China has also offered to mediate the opening of talks between Russia and Ukraine. But Western countries are skeptical about this mediation. The US has also said Beijing has recently supported Russia’s war effort by exporting several items.

In this context, Meloni told Xi Jinping, let China see how the status quo can come. Let them ascertain how to bring peace.

Xi Jinping mentioned the long-standing friendly relations between Italy and China. He said that both sides are on the path of development based on mutual trust, respect and patience.

Meloni’s office said the two sides also discussed issues such as AI, the environment, reforming the UN Security Council.
