Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has strongly criticized Israel’s history of ceasefire violations. He also called on the international community to take action to prevent potential ceasefire violations in Gaza.
Erdogan made the call in a speech at his party’s provincial congress in Turkey’s Adana province on Saturday.
He said that Israel, especially Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, has achieved a great record in violating the ceasefire. This time, this should not be allowed to happen in Gaza again.
Terming Israel’s 467-day aggression on Gaza as “genocide and massacre,” the Turkish president said, “Despite 467 days of cruelty, Israel has not been able to break the will of our brothers and sisters in Gaza to resist.”
At the same time, Erdogan announced that Turkey will continue its efforts to bring those responsible for human rights violations to justice.
In his words, ‘efforts to bring those responsible for war crimes and crimes against humanity to justice will be intensified.’
At the same time, Erdogan also stated that ‘Turkey will make every effort to heal the wounds of Gaza during the ceasefire.’
At the same time, regarding Syria, the Turkish president said that the Israeli project to divide Syria into three parts has collapsed.’
He also stated that Turkey is committed to the reconstruction of the war-torn region and providing humanitarian aid.
Background to the ceasefire
Last Wednesday, Qatar announced that a three-phase ceasefire agreement had been reached between Israel and Hamas. This agreement will come into effect to end the bloody conflict in the Gaza Strip that has lasted for more than 15 months.
The ceasefire agreement is scheduled to come into effect in Gaza from 8:30 am local time on Sunday.
