Israel’s national security adviser, Zachi Hanegbi, said plans to replace the Hamas regime in northern Gaza would soon be launched.
He said this in a speech at Reichman University’s annual Herzliya conference on Tuesday.
He said that the rule of military power of Hamas is going to end this time. This is an opportunity for those who have long wanted a new ruling power of Hamas to be established, want to see a new government.
He also said that the new leadership in Gaza will include Israel’s partners in the Abraham Accords, the United States, the European Union and the United Nations.
Earlier on Monday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the “fierce conflict” against Hamas fighters in Rafah, the southernmost city of the Gaza Strip, was almost over. But that doesn’t mean the war is over. After the fierce fighting in Rafah ends, Israeli forces will focus on northern Gaza.
In the interview, Netanyahu mentioned the deployment of troops in northern Israel, that is, on the border with Lebanon. He said, “For the sake of Israel’s defense,” the deployment of troops on the Lebanese border has become necessary. His government wants to negotiate a temporary ceasefire with Hamas in exchange for the release of some hostages. However, after the end of that ceasefire, the aggression will start again, which will continue until the “destruction of Hamas”.
