230 prisoners exchanged between Russia and Ukraine brokered by the United Arab Emirates. After the Russian attack on Ukraine in 2022, the United Arab Emirates conducted a prisoner exchange between the two countries for the seventh time. With this, the number of prisoners exchanged between the two countries stood at 1,788.
Reuters reported that on Saturday (August 24), the two countries exchanged a total of 230 prisoners of war, 115 from both sides.
According to the Ministry of Defense of Russia, 115 Russian soldiers have been brought back through prisoner exchange. They were captured by Ukrainian forces from the Kursk region. The Russian Defense Ministry thanked the UAE for arranging the prisoner exchange.
It is known that this is the first such exchange after Ukraine’s sudden attack on Russia’s Kursk region on August 6. With that attack, Ukraine set the record for the largest attack on Russian territory for the first time since World War II.
All freed Russian soldiers are now in Belarus. Upon their return to Russia, they will be ensured medical care and rehabilitation.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy released a photo of troops returning from the exchange. In the picture, the country’s soldiers are seen wrapped in blue and yellow flags. He said that the returning soldiers are members of the Border Guard, National Guard, Navy and Armed Forces.
