A group of Chinese graduate students have invented a type of coat that can hide people. No camera can detect a person wearing such clothes. These sheets are very simple looking and also cheap in price. This information is known from the report of the Chinese media South China Morning Post published from Hong Kong.

According to the report, this invisible magic sheet discovered by young Chinese researchers has been named ‘Invisdefense’. Researchers say that although this sheet can be seen with the naked eye, it is not possible to identify it with a camera. This invention won the first prize in the China Postgraduate Innovation and Practice Competition organized by the Chinese technology company Huawei on November 27 last year.

The project supervisor for the young researchers was Professor Wang Zheng of Wuhan University’s School of Computer Science. The paper on the discovery has been accepted at the 2023 conference of the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence, an international body of academic discussion on artificial intelligence.

Regarding this discovery, Wang Zheng said, “Nowadays, many surveillance devices can detect the human body. Cameras on the road have pedestrian detection systems. Various smart cars can detect pedestrians, roads and even obstacles in front of them. Using our InvisDefense the person may be caught on camera but it will not give any information about whether it is a person.

Generally, during the day the camera often detects the human body with movement, physical structure. But InvisDefense has a camouflage pattern that interferes with the camera’s vision algorithm and blinds it. That’s why the cam can’t detect anyone wearing it.

Again at night the camera detects the human body through infrared thermal imaging or detecting the temperature of the human body. But the irregularly shaped temperature-regulating modules on the inner surface of the InvisDefense create an unusual temperature pattern that confuses the infrared camera.

Researchers say another advantage of InvisDefense is its low cost. A complete set of InvisDefense costs just 500 yuan, or less than $70, Wang Zheng said. But many others see the negative side of this discovery as well. Some say that this may lead to an increase in criminal tendencies among people.
