Delhi has invited Pakistan and Bangladesh, among other neighboring countries, to participate in the ‘Undivided India’ seminar organized to mark the 150th anniversary of the India Meteorological Department.
NDTV reported that this is the first such initiative by the Indian government to set aside differences and celebrate the shared history of the Indian subcontinent in unity.
According to the report, invitations have been sent to Pakistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Afghanistan, Myanmar, Maldives, Sri Lanka and Nepal. Apart from the subcontinent, invitations have also been sent to officials from the Middle East, Central and Southwest Asia.
News agency Press Trust of India (PTI) reported that Pakistan has confirmed its participation in the seminar. However, nothing has been confirmed from Bangladesh yet. If Dhaka confirms its participation, it will be a ‘historic moment’.
“We want officials from all the countries that were part of undivided India when the India Meteorological Department (IMD) was established to be part of this celebration,” said a top official of the Meteorological Department.
Various ministries of the Government of India have contributed to making the event memorable. The Finance Ministry has also decided to release a special and limited edition commemorative coin of Rs 150 to mark the occasion.
