All democracies must ensure a ‘proper balance’ between freedom of expression and public safety and order. Democracies, in particular, should demonstrate such understanding towards other democracies.
Such comments were made in a statement of the Ministry of External Affairs of India on Thursday.
Responding to the arrest of hundreds of pro-Palestinian students in US universities, ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, democracy is judged on the basis of what we do at home. Democracy is not evaluated by what I said abroad.
According to a report of Hindustan Times, recently several departments of the US administration have published negative reports about India. Several negative reports about India have been published in the US, especially on human rights and political issues.
When asked about the ongoing protests in US campuses and the security of Indian students there, Randhir Jaiswal said that ‘India is keeping an eye on the situation’.
