Two-state solution is the only solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict: EU

The European Union’s (EU) top diplomat, Kaja Kallas, said there is no other option but a two-state solution to end the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

She made the remarks at a joint press conference on Monday (February 24) after a meeting of the EU-Israel Association Council, reported Daily Sabah.

Kaja Kallas said, “We support the Palestinian Authority and their return to Gaza. We support the return of every displaced Palestinian for whom Gaza is their home.”

“When the time comes, the EU will also support the reconstruction of Gaza with regional parties,” she said. The Palestinians must be allowed to stay in Gaza.

The European Union on Monday raised pressure on Israel over its West Bank offensive and the fragile ceasefire in Gaza during a meeting with the country’s foreign minister in Brussels.

“We are following developments closely, and we cannot hide our concerns about the West Bank,” said Callas.

This is the first meeting between the two sides under the framework of an association agreement signed between the EU and Israel in 2022. Israel had suspended such talks for a decade due to EU criticism of settlements in the West Bank.

Spain and Ireland had called on the bloc to suspend its association agreement with Israel last year over the crimes committed in Gaza. But other pro-Israel EU countries refused to take such action.

Israeli Minister Gideon Saar said of the meeting: “I have listened to the positions of all member states, responded to their positions and their concerns, and outlined Israel’s position.”
