The European Union (EU) has imposed sanctions on 5 Israeli citizens and 3 organizations accused of persecuting Palestinians and committing serious and systematic human rights violations in the West Bank and East Jerusalem. The European Commission, the EU’s administrative department, confirmed the information in a statement on Monday.
The names of the five Israeli nationals targeted by the sanctions have not been released. However, it is known that two of them are the chief executives of two companies. These organizations are Tzav 9, Lehava Organization and another organization. The two men who have been identified are Ben-Zion Gopstein and Issachar Manne. Issachar Manne is the chief executive of a newspaper.
The EU statement said the individuals and entities covered by the sanctions have been inciting riots and violence in the West Bank since the start of the war in Gaza on October 9, 2023. In addition, these individuals and organizations are accused of regularly blocking the entry of food, water and fuel into Gaza.
With these sanctions, the EU hopes that the Israeli administration and related organizations will stop their actions against Palestinians and accept responsibility for human rights violations.
