Fireworks depot explosion in Philippines kills 5

Five people, including a four-year-old child, were killed in an explosion at a fireworks warehouse in the southern Philippines. At this time, 38 more people were injured. Among the dead were four warehouse workers and the child was the son of an employee. The emergency services of the country gave this information on Sunday.

Incident investigation officer Luigi Chan said the explosion occurred at the Zamboanga City site last Saturday afternoon. It created a 66 feet hole in the ground. Nearby buildings and houses collapsed. Moreover, various structures caught fire.

The city’s disaster office confirmed the death toll. They said that 38 people were injured in this incident, eight of them are in serious condition. Authorities said the cause of the explosion is being investigated. The walls of the depot were broken in the blast. A nearby soft drink factory, grain and flour warehouse and houses in the area were reduced to rubble.

The investigating officer said that the probable source of the fire was fireworks stored in the warehouse. The explosion was spread over 3 thousand square meters. It took firefighters two hours to bring the fire under control.
