As the largest democratic country in the world, it is the expectation of the United States that democracy should be maintained in India in the true sense.

Matthew Miller, chief spokesman of the State Department, told Washington’s expectations when asked about the US’s concern about the continued deterioration of the democratic situation in India.

Participating in the briefing, State Department Correspondent Mushfiqul Fazal Ansari wants to know that two articles have been published recently about the current situation in India, I am drawing your attention to that.

Foreign Policy published an article titled ‘US-India relationship is fundamentally fragile’, and another article titled ‘Modi’s undemocratic rule threatens South Asian security’ – The South Asia Journal.

How will the United States handle bilateral relations with the country, including the Indo-Pacific Strategy, in the coming days, given the concerns that have arisen about India due to the continued deterioration of democracy and the State Department’s recent concern about the Modi government’s attack on the opposition?

In response, Miller said, India is the largest democratic country in the world and an important strategic partner of the United States. I hope it stays true.
