Hezbollah leader Sayyid Hassan Nasrullah was martyred in a brutal Israeli airstrike on the southern outskirts of Beirut, the capital of Lebanon, on Friday night. As a result, the Lebanese armed group will soon see a new leader.
How can the next leader of Hezbollah? Analysts have answered this question as soon as it arises.
An analyst named Hala Jaber, author of the book ‘Hezbollah: Born with a Vengeance’, told Al Jazeera that Hassan Nasrallah’s death would be very painful for Lebanon.
A former correspondent of the Sunday Times said, ‘Many people will be grieving, drowning in sadness, feeling empty. Because this leader has been on the same path with his people for 32 years.
Hala Jaber added, “A generation has grown up with Nasrullah.” They listened to him, supported him. He also gave them hope, became a voice for them, gave them freedom and strength and freed them from tyranny’.
At the same time, this analyst pointed out that Hezbollah is not only dependent on one leader and their resistance struggle will not end with the killing of one leader.
He said, “Israel thinks that by killing Nasrullah and his colleagues and some commanders, they have finished this organization.” But history and past events have shown us that when one leader leaves, another comes in his place and holds the reins firmly.
Jaber added that Hezbollah’s new leadership would generally be “more intense, more determined and more forward-looking.”
When Hezbollah’s previous leader, Abbas al-Musawi, was assassinated by Israel in 1992, Nasrallah assumed leadership. According to Jaber, ‘Nasrullah led, reformed, matured and transformed Hezbollah into one of the most powerful organizations today’.
