India and Indonesia Strengthen Defence Ties, Emphasize Collaboration in Maritime Security

New Delhi: In a significant step towards bolstering defence cooperation, India and Indonesia convened the seventh Joint Defence Cooperation Committee (JDCC) meeting, reaffirming their commitment to enhancing collaboration in various areas, including maritime security.

Chaired by Defence Secretary Giridhar Aramane and Air Marshal Donny Ermawan Taufanto, Secretary General of the Ministry of Defence, Indonesia, the meeting witnessed fruitful discussions on expanding the scope of defence ties between the two nations.

Both sides expressed satisfaction at the progress made in bilateral defence cooperation initiatives, particularly in areas such as defence industry and multilateral engagements. The meeting provided a platform to review the advancements achieved through Working Groups on Defence Cooperation and Defence Industries Cooperation.

With a focus on strengthening existing areas of collaboration, special attention was given to defence industry ties, maritime security, and multilateral cooperation. The discussions underscored the shared commitment of India and Indonesia towards addressing common security challenges in the Indo-Pacific region.

As part of his visit, Air Marshal Donny Ermawan Taufanto explored key Indian defence facilities, including the DRDO headquarters in New Delhi and leading defence companies like TATA Advanced Systems, L&T Defence, Bharat Forge, Mahindra Defence, and Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited. These engagements aimed at fostering greater cooperation in research, joint production, and enhancing defence industrial capabilities.

Air Marshal Taufanto also paid homage to the fallen heroes at the National War Memorial, symbolizing the deep-rooted respect and solidarity between the two nations.

India and Indonesia share a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and a common vision for the Indo-Pacific region. Their collaboration is marked by frequent high-level interactions and a commitment to advancing mutual interests in bilateral and multilateral arenas.

Indonesia’s role as a key partner in India’s Act East Policy underscores the strategic importance of this relationship, as both nations work together to promote peace, stability, and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region.
