While the whole world is looking at Central and West Asia, India is focusing on the East with the ‘Act East’ policy. That too silently. Suddenly, India is making a ‘significant’ change in its policy with North Korea.
It is learned that the closed doors of the Indian embassy in North Korea have reopened. Experts consider this change to be significant, almost secretly, with the country of the ‘great enemy’ of the United States, Kim Jong Un.
According to information from the media NDTV, in addition to strengthening relations with Southeast Asian countries, New Delhi is working quietly and cautiously towards its policy on the Korean Peninsula. North Korea prefers to work from behind the scenes. As a result, New Delhi has continued to try to quietly strengthen its diplomatic relations with Pyongyang to maintain secrecy in front of the world.
In July 2021, New Delhi decided to close the Indian embassy in Pyongyang. Ambassador Atul Malhari returned to New Delhi via Moscow with all his subordinate staff. Although it was said at the time that such a decision was made in the Covid situation. But it became clear to experts that the Modi government was trying to close the door on North Korea using this opportunity. It has gradually become clear that this idea is not wrong. Because even after the Corona situation normalized, there was no update on changing diplomatic relations with that country or opening an embassy. Atul was also appointed as the ambassador to Mongolia.
Many years have passed since then. North Korea’s diplomatic importance has gradually increased. In the last three to three and a half years, Pyongyang has become more important not only for India and Asia, but also for the Western world. In these few years, their relations with Russia, China and Iran have deepened. Many see this alliance as a counter-power to the Quad.
Although Russia’s relations with India are also very good. Similarly, New Delhi has strong relations with Tehran. On the other hand, it is believed that the diplomatic relations with China have also started to cool down. In such a situation, there is no reason for North Korea to be reluctant to change its relations with India.
On the other hand, strengthening relations with this country will also strengthen their position. Again, New Delhi is also realizing that in the coming days, Kim’s country can become even brighter on the political map of Asia.
