Authorities have arrested 17,616 expatriates in the Middle East country of Saudi Arabia in the past week. It has been reported that they have been arrested by the country’s law and order forces in a raid from August 15 to August 21.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Interior of Saudi Arabia, they were arrested as part of an ongoing campaign against illegal expatriates across Saudi Arabia. In one week from August 15 to August 21, 17 thousand 616 expatriates were arrested in raids across the country. Those arrested are accused of violating Saudi Arabia’s housing, labor and border protection laws.
The country’s interior ministry said 11,22 people were arrested for violating the housing law, 4,216 for violating the border security law and 2,378 for violating the labor law. Various security forces and government agencies of the country conducted a joint operation and arrested these expatriates.
Besides, 883 people were arrested while trying to enter Saudi Arabia illegally across the border. Among them, 41 percent are Yemenis, 58 percent are Ethiopians and 1 percent are citizens of other countries. Besides, another 68 expatriates were arrested while trying to leave Saudi Arabia illegally. During this time, 15 people living in Saudi Arabia were also arrested for transporting and sheltering those who violated the housing and work regulations.
