Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has commented that Israel has dealt a terrible blow to its country’s enemies. Netanyahu made this claim in an address to the nation on Wednesday. He said this hours after the assassination of Hamas chief Ismail Haniya in Tehran and the death of Hezbollah commander Fouad Shukri in an Israeli attack in the Lebanese capital Beirut.
CNN reported that Netanyahu said that his country has dealt a terrible blow to the enemy in the past few days. However, he did not say anything by accepting responsibility for the murder of Ismail Haniya. In addition, Israel has yet to officially claim responsibility for Haniya’s murder.
“Three weeks ago, we attacked the military chief of Hamas, Mohammad Daef,” Netanyahu said. Two weeks ago we attacked the Houthis—one of the most far-reaching attacks by our air force. Yesterday we attacked Fuad Shukri, Hezbollah’s military chief.
At the time, Netanyahu also said, Israel is facing challenging days and we must come to a settlement with those who would harm our country. These are challenging days. There are threats from Beirut. We are prepared for any situation. Those who hurt us, kill our children, kill our citizens, hurt our nation, have bloody heads.
In the speech, the Israeli prime minister insisted that, “Israel will continue fighting until the war’s goal is achieved.” Regarding the calls he received for ending the Gaza war, Netanyahu said, “We didn’t give up then, we won’t give up yet.”
Meanwhile, a New York Times report citing three Iranian sources said Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei ordered a direct attack on Israel. He gave this order in retaliation for the killing of Ismail Haniya, the head of the political wing of Hamas in the country’s capital, Tehran.
An official of the Iranian government and two officials of the country’s Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said that Khamenei gave this order in an emergency meeting of Iran’s Supreme National Assembly on Wednesday morning. The meeting was held shortly after the assassination of Ismail Haniya. They declined to be named for security reasons.
