Israel declares that citizens must join the army
Hundreds of Israeli army reservists have gone on foreign trips without informing their commanders because of the ongoing war in Gaza. Due to which they have suffered huge losses for the past few months. Due to which the Israeli forces are suffering from army shortage.
Recently, the Netanyahu government has taken the initiative to implement new laws to overcome this crisis. It is known that even though this new military law is not intended, all the citizens of the country aged 18 are required to join the army for three years.
The Israeli military said it will begin sending notices to Orthodox Jewish men for mandatory military service. Orthodox Jews protested in the streets of Israel after the announcement on Tuesday.
According to Israeli law, all 18-year-olds are required to join the army for three years. For a long time, Orthodox Jews were exempted in this regard. However, after the start of the Gaza war, the Netanyahu government took the initiative to amend the law. Recently, the Supreme Court of the country has ruled in favor of the government. The matter caused great indignation among Orthodox Jews.
Hundreds of men blocked a major highway in central Israel for several hours in the ultra-Orthodox town of Bnei Brak, near Tel Aviv, on Tuesday. Police on horseback push back the crowd and drag the protesters away. Nine people have been arrested from the spot. Protesters said they were willing to go to jail, but not to the army.
“This is not an army for war,” said one protester. It is an army of incitement against religion. So our children, our sons will not join the army even for a minute.
