Israel is opening the border crossing, will the humanitarian crisis in Gaza be cut?

Israel’s Security Cabinet approved the reopening of the Erez crossing between Israel and northern Gaza and the use of the Ashdod port for the first time since the October 7 attack by Hamas.

An Israeli official told CNN on Thursday (April 4).

The Israeli official said the crossing would be opened to allow more humanitarian aid to enter besieged Gaza. The cabinet also reportedly approved the use of Israel’s Ashdod port to facilitate the transfer of more aid to Gaza.

However, it is still unclear how the border crossing will be reopened. According to CNN, the amount of aid that has been allowed through Gaza’s southern border crossing so far is insufficient compared to the level of human suffering in the region.

Meanwhile, the United Nations has welcomed this initiative of Israel. Stephane Dujarric, a spokesman for the organization’s secretary-general, said Thursday.
This is definitely positive news. But how it is implemented, we have to see. We need a humanitarian ceasefire and massive aid.

The announcement of the opening of the border crossing comes amid global outrage over the recent Israeli attack on Gaza that killed seven workers of the international relief aid organization World Central Kitchen (WCK). Israel claimed responsibility for the attack but claimed it was not intentional.

Besides, in a phone call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu before announcing the opening of the crossing, US President Joe Biden said the overall humanitarian situation in Gaza has become “unacceptable”. At the same time, he warned Israel to take steps to deal with the crisis or “suffer the consequences”.

Meanwhile, in a different report, the British media BBC reported that the Erase crossing is being opened temporarily or temporarily.

Many analysts say it is important to get more aid to Gaza as quickly as possible by any means necessary. Because if the situation that the residents are going through continues, thousands of people will soon die of starvation. In that case, although they see Israel’s opening of border crossings and permission to use the port as positive, they do not consider it a permanent solution.
