Israel has announced the annexation of nearly 6,000 acres of Palestinian land in the West Bank. This is essentially part of the Tel Aviv government’s annexation policy and is the largest annexation in decades.
Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich announced on the country’s Channel 14 TV on Friday that 24,000 dunams (5,930.5 acres) of land in the West Bank has been annexed. He also declared it as so-called ‘state land’.
Israeli TV Channel 14 reported that the latest decision is almost half of the land declared as ‘state land’ since the 1993 Oslo Accords. This is a major step, which will affect regional planning and change the situation in the region.
Israeli Finance Minister Smotrich said, “Today, at the right time, we have completed a complex process and declared 24,000 dunams of land in the West Bank as new ‘state land.'”
According to Channel 14, the illegal Jewish settlement of Ma’ale Adumim, located east of occupied Jerusalem, will be expanded south by about 2,600 dunams (642 acres). This will create a settlement chain there, which will be connected to the illegal settlement of Kedar.
The illegal settlements of Migdal Oz and Susiya in the southern West Bank and Yafit in the Jordan Valley will also be expanded, the Israeli media reported. Source: Mehr News Agency
