More than 6 lakh people affected by floods in Assam, death toll rises to 15

The death toll from floods in India’s northeastern state of Assam has risen to 15. More than 6 lakh people have been affected by the flood. In addition, the water of three rivers is flowing over Bipatsima. The Indian media PTI reported this information in a report on Sunday (June 2).

According to the report, floods have occurred in Assam due to the rains after Cyclone Remal. The situation is getting worse day by day. Three more deaths were reported in the state on Saturday. Due to this, the number of dead in the flood has increased to 15 people. This was informed in the Assam government’s flood bulletin.

Till last Friday, the number of people affected by floods in Assam was 350,000. A day later, on Saturday, it crossed the 6 lakh mark. Nagaon district of the state is the worst affected. Only there the number of flood affected people is more than two and a half lakh.

At least 10 districts of the state are still affected by floods, according to figures from the Assam Disaster Response Force.

Indian press says that Barak is one of the most important rivers of Assam. Since last Thursday, the water of that river has been flowing over the border. Besides, the water of Kopili, a tributary of Brahmaputra, Kushiara, a branch of Barak, is also above the danger level. Roads, bridges and houses were washed away. Many agricultural lands were also affected by the flood.
