90 Myanmar junta forces surrendered to the Arakan Army (AA) rebel group last Monday.
The anti-junta Arakan Army has launched an attack on a junta base in western Myanmar’s Rakhine state, according to a report by Radio Free Asia (RFA), residents of a village in the town of Maungdoo, south of the Bangladesh border.
As of 13 November 2023, the Arakan Army has captured eight townships across Rakhine State and a city in North Chin State from the junta. The insurgent group announced in early March that it was fighting for full control of Rakhine.
Meanwhile, more than 120 soldiers from the junta base in Ah She Rakhine village managed to escape from the Arakan Army. However, about 90 soldiers surrendered around noon, according to residents of Ta Man Thar village.
A villager, who requested anonymity, told RFA that 35 junta forces had fled. But the remaining forces in the camp surrendered in the afternoon.
But Khaing Thu Kha, a spokesman for the rebel group, did not respond to RFA’s questions when contacted.
However, the Arakan Army has not released any updated information on the Ah She attack. According to a press release, the armed group killed 20 junta forces while fleeing the Ta Man Thar camp during the attack on Sunday.
