Not even a week has passed since the assassination of Hezbollah chief Hasan Nasrullah, considered the ‘eternal enemy’. Meanwhile, Israel has started an operation to kill Hashem Safieddin, the possible head of the armed group. Safieddin is the man widely regarded as the successor to slain Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah.

The American media New York Times reported that Israel attacked a meeting of Hezbollah’s top leaders near Beirut. It is believed that Hashem Safyeddin was also there. However, the Israeli army could not confirm whether Nasrullah’s possible successor died in this attack.

US officials told the New York Times that Israel launched an attack targeting an underground Hezbollah bunker near Beirut on Thursday. It is believed that Safieddin and other leaders of Hezbollah were present there.

Like Nasrullah, his cousin Safyeddin did not appear in public. But secretly he has been active as a top leader of Hezbollah for a long time.

The Israeli army issued an order to evacuate an area in Burj al-Barazan, located in the southern part of Beirut, late Thursday night. Several large explosions occurred in the area around midnight. which spread to the densely populated Dahiya area of Beirut. It is said to be the biggest attack in the area since the war started last October.

According to a source close to the Hezbollah group, Israel carried out 11 consecutive attacks on the southern Beirut stronghold. The bombardment was so intense it was felt up to 15 miles away. It shook various buildings in the city.

There was no immediate official statement from any party regarding Safieddin. In addition, Lebanon’s Ministry of Health said in a statement on Friday that 37 people were killed and 151 injured in Israeli attacks in Lebanon in the last 24 hours.
