Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has expressed fear that Israel’s Netanyahu government may target Turkey.
“The Israeli administration, which operates on the deception of the ‘promised land’, will set its sights on our homeland after Palestine and Lebanon,” Erdogan said, warning that Netanyahu’s administration could target Turkey in the future.
Under such circumstances, Erdogan called for a comprehensive arms embargo on Israel. He made this call during a meeting with Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Abul Ghait in Ankara on Wednesday.
Türkiye, a staunch critic of Israel’s war in Gaza, has been wary of the regional implications of the conflict due to Israel’s continued attacks on Lebanon and Iran’s counter-attacks.
According to the Turkish President’s Communication Department, during the meeting, Erdogan and Ahmed Abul Gait discussed the global and regional situation, especially Israel’s attack on Lebanon.
Erdogan told the head of the Arab League that Israel wants to spread the flames of conflict throughout the region in order to seize Palestinian land and deprive them of a homeland.
He also said that Türkiye continues its efforts to make Israel accountable for its crimes. He highlighted the importance of a comprehensive arms embargo to increase pressure on Tel Aviv.
Erdogan also told Abul Gheit that tensions in Syria, Libya, Somalia and Ethiopia must be stopped immediately. Türkiye wants peace and stability in these countries.
