Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has rejected US President Donald Trump’s plan to expel Palestinians from Gaza, saying that no one has the power to evict Palestinians from war-torn Gaza. AFP reports.
Speaking at a press conference at Istanbul airport before departing for Malaysia on Sunday, Erdogan said that Gaza, the West Bank and East Jerusalem belong to the Palestinians. No one has the power to remove the people of Gaza from their traditional homeland, which dates back thousands of years.
Trump recently proposed reorganizing the territory by evicting more than two million Palestinians from Gaza at a joint press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The plan has been condemned worldwide and has caused strong reactions in the Arab and Muslim world.
Erdogan called Trump’s proposal worthless, saying that the US administration’s Gaza proposal, made under pressure from the Zionist leadership, has no significance.
Earlier, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan ruled out the possibility of a forced evacuation of Gazans in an interview with Palestinian television. He said the evacuation of Palestinians is unacceptable in any way.
Trump spoke of the economic reconstruction of Gaza, clearing it of rubble and unexploded bombs, but did not say how the people living there would be moved. He said the United States would take responsibility for the Gaza Strip and we would implement our plan there.
