North Korean leader Kim Jong Un observes the performance of a new suicide drone. He observed how the drone destroys specific targets, including a mock tank. At the time, Kim called on researchers to develop artificial intelligence for unmanned vehicles.
The British news agency Reuters reported this news on Monday citing the country’s state media KCNA.
According to KCNA, Kim visited the Drone Institute of the North Korean Academy of Defense Sciences last Saturday. There he observed the experiments of various drones.
Kim also called for more suicide drones to be used by tactical infantry and special operations units. The suicide drones can conduct underwater strikes, strategic surveillance and multi-pronged attacks.
These drones are also known as loitering weapons. Such weapons have been widely used in wars in Ukraine as well as in the Middle East.
Pictures published in state media show at least four different types of drones.
South Korea’s Ministry of Unification has said that this is the first time North Korea has tested a suicide drone.
North Korea has made major progress in its long-range ballistic missile tests and nuclear program in the past few years. At the same time, they have increased their strategic war capabilities.
