Russian President Vladimir Putin is visiting Azerbaijan to improve bilateral relations. Regional and international development will be discussed during the two-day official visit. The Kremlin confirmed this in a statement on Friday.
Putin is visiting Azerbaijan for the first time since 2018. Russia is seeking to reassert itself as a mediator in the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia. Azerbaijan and Armenia are at odds over the Nagorno-Karabakh region.
Kremlin says Russia wants further development of relations with Azerbaijan. Also relevant international and regional issues will be discussed during this visit.
After the invasion of Ukraine in 2022, European countries turned away from Russia. As an alternative, they are importing oil and gas from Azerbaijan.
Meanwhile, the Ukrainian army has announced that it will intensify its attacks by entering Russia. Putin is going on a foreign tour amid the ongoing situation.
