South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol has been banned from traveling abroad. The matter was confirmed by an official from the country’s Justice Ministry on Monday.

With this announcement, a South Korean president is the first to fall under this ban. This information was reported by Reuters on Monday.

The South Korean president faced impeachment after declaring martial law and lifting it within hours under public pressure. Although the impeachment bill brought by the opposition party in the South Korean parliament was rejected, the country’s president is still under pressure from various sides. This time, he has been banned from traveling abroad.

In a speech to the public on Sunday, PPP leader Han Dong-hoon said that even if Yoon is president until he resigns, he will not be involved in any work inside or outside the country. During this time, South Korean Prime Minister Han Duk-soo will handle government affairs. South Korean citizens are expressing concerns about the country’s leadership in posts on social media. They say it is not clear who is leading the country now.

The president is the head of the armed forces, South Korea’s Ministry of National Defense said at a press conference on Monday. This means that Yun can still make executive decisions on any foreign policy issue, including any potential threat from North Korea. In an interview with The Korea Herald, Shin Yul, a political science professor at Myongji University, said that if the president changes his mind, he can lead again.

Yun is adamant that no one can stop him. Yun made his first public appearance since martial law was imposed on Saturday. He apologized for the anxiety and inconvenience caused to people by the imposition of martial law. He also pledged not to impose martial law again. However, the opposition is not willing to back down from their decision. As a result, they will continue to try to impeach Yun.
