A state-of-the-art F-16 fighter jet has crashed in Singapore.

The plane crashed at the country’s western military airfield on Wednesday (May 8).

Singapore’s Ministry of Defense said the fighter jet crashed at Tengah Air Base. However, there was no loss of life. The pilot of the plane managed to get out safely after the accident.

A statement said the pilot was still conscious. He can walk. But he is undergoing treatment. Apart from him, no one else was injured in the accident.

The ministry said the aircraft encountered problems during take-off. The pilot then took emergency action. The ministry also said that an investigation has been started to find out the cause of the accident.

Singapore has one of the most advanced air forces in Southeast Asia. Such accidents are extremely rare in the country.

Earlier in 2010, one of the country’s military helicopters made an emergency landing in an open field near a residential area due to engine trouble.
