The Communist Party of China expelled two former defense ministers

China’s former defense minister Li Shangfu and his predecessor Wei Fenghe have been expelled by the country’s Communist Party for “serious breach of discipline”.

Al Jazeera reported on Thursday (June 27) citing the Central Committee of the Communist Party that Lee is suspected of taking large sums of money through taking bribes as well as bribing others.

Quoting the inquiry report, the report said, he “did not fulfill his political duties”. Accepted benefits for himself and other employees.

It also said that, as a senior leading cadre of the army, Li Shangfu betrayed his original mission. He has done great harm to the interests of the party and national defence. An investigation was launched against Li Shangfu at the behest of the Communist Party.

Last year, the British news agency Reuters reported that Li Shangfu was under investigation for corruption in military procurement. He was removed from the post without explanation in October last year. Before that he was missing for two months.

But China has now openly said that the investigation against Li Shangfu was ongoing and revealed the nature of his crimes. A massive anti-corruption campaign has begun in China’s military since last year.
