The US has signed a new arms sale worth $385 million to Taiwan. This is the latest sign of deepening military ties between the two countries. In the meantime, Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen has visited the US. The issue is continuously unsettling China. This time, the country has issued a warning in this regard.

In a statement on Saturday, China’s Foreign Ministry said that it strongly condemns and strongly protests the US for the red carpet greeting of Lai.

It also said that China is closely monitoring relations between Taiwan and the US. China will take firm measures to protect our sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Earlier on Saturday, the US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) said in a statement that the supply of these military equipment, including spare parts for fighter jets, will begin by 2025.

The new package, approved by the US State Department, will ensure Taiwan maintains its F-16 operational readiness to meet current and future threats, the DSCA said.

China claims self-ruled Taiwan as its own. It has not ruled out the possibility of using force to achieve its goal of unifying the region with its territory. The country has long opposed US arms sales to Taiwan.

Meanwhile, amid tensions, Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen arrived in the United States on Saturday (November 30) for her first foreign trip since taking office. She was given a red carpet welcome there.

In a speech shortly before taking off, Lai said the visit ushered in a new era of values-based democracy.

China claims Taiwan as part of its territory. On the other hand, the Taiwanese president has threatened to firmly resist any attempt at independence. He is on his first visit to the United States since becoming president.

China’s Foreign Ministry said that despite the lack of formal diplomatic relations, the United States is Taiwan’s largest arms supplier and patron.

Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said the United States should handle the Taiwan issue with the utmost caution, unequivocally oppose Taiwan independence, and support the peaceful reunification of China.
