Human Rights Watch has claimed that Israel has committed war crimes and crimes against humanity by forcibly displacing the Palestinian people in Gaza. However, the United States disagreed with this claim.

US State Department spokesman Vedanta Patel said on Thursday, “Something we unequivocally disagree with.” We feel that such phrases and such allegations are certainly baseless’.

Patel admits that what is happening in Gaza is beyond acceptable limits.

‘Forcible displacement of Palestinians is a redline for the US and inconsistent with the policies laid out by Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and the G-7 allies at the start of the war’.

But his other argument about war crimes and crimes against humanity — “It is entirely consistent and acceptable to ask civilians to evacuate a certain area while conducting certain military operations and then ask them to go home. We have not seen any kind of forced displacement’.

Meanwhile, there was no immediate comment from the Israeli military or the Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding this claim of the United Nations. However, the Israeli authorities have rejected such allegations before. On the contrary, they claim, their military forces are acting in accordance with international laws and principles of war.

On October 7 last year, the Palestinian liberation armed group Hamas killed 1,200 people and took more than 250 people hostage across the Israeli border. Since that day, Israel has started a war against Hamas in Gaza.

According to health authorities in Hamas-controlled Gaza, more than 43,500 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli attacks so far. More than 100,000 people were injured.

On the other hand, according to the information given by the United Nations, before October 7, 2023, there were 24 million people living in Gaza. Since then till October 2024, 1 crore 9 million people have been displaced.
