Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that Turkey’s just position on Gaza will be proven in history in the future, as it was in the case of Syria.
In his words, “Just as we were proven right in the case of Syria, history will also recognize our just position in the Gaza crisis.”
He made these remarks while speaking at an event of the Turkish Exporters’ Council in Istanbul on Friday.
Former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad was in power for almost 25 years. After rebel groups captured Damascus on December 8, he fled to Russia. This ended the Baath Party rule in Syria that had been in power since 1963.
Erdogan mentioned the cessation of his country’s trade relations with Israel at this time. He said that Turkey is the only country that has completely stopped all trade with Israel.
In May 2023, Turkey suspended all trade with Israel worth about $9.5 billion. This tough decision was taken in response to the ongoing Israeli massacre in Gaza.
Although the UN Security Council has called for an immediate ceasefire. The Israeli army has continued its “genocidal aggression” in Gaza.
The war, which began on October 7, 2023, has killed about 45,600 Palestinians so far. Most of them are women and children.
