Two Israeli intelligence chiefs in Egypt’s capital
Israel’s Mossad chief David Barnia and Shin Bet head of the country’s internal intelligence agency Ronen Bar arrived in Cairo, the capital of Egypt, to discuss the cease-fire in the Palestinian Gaza Strip.
Al-Jazeera reported that Shin Bet chief Ronan Barr and Mossad chief David Barnia have arrived in Egypt to join ongoing ceasefire talks.
Earlier on Saturday (August 24), a delegation headed by Khalil Al-Haiya, a senior official of the Palestinian independence organization Hamas, left for Cairo, the capital of Egypt. In a statement, Hamas said its delegation would learn the progress of ongoing talks from mediators at the latest round of Gaza ceasefire talks in the Egyptian capital. However, a senior Hamas official said they would not participate in the ceasefire talks in Gaza.
The official, who did not wish to be named, said that the delegation will go to Cairo on Saturday. There they will brief senior Egyptian intelligence officials on the progress of ongoing Gaza ceasefire talks. But that does not mean they will participate in the discussion.
Meanwhile, two Egyptian security sources told Reuters that the US and Israeli delegations began a new round of meetings in Cairo on Thursday. The meeting lasted for two days with the aim of resolving the differences on the new ceasefire proposal.
