AKIPRESS.COM – Ombudswoman Jamilya Dzhamanbaeva and UK Ambassador to Kyrgyzstan Nicholas Bowler held negotiations.
The parties discussed prospects for cooperation in ensuring human rights and freedoms in accordance with generally accepted principles and international law.
Nicholas Bowler said that the UK is preparing a project to protect migrant workers from Kyrgyzstan, the press service of the Ombudsman said.
The Ambassador noted that, according to their statistics, 20% of all quotas in force for seasonal work in the UK are provided for labour migrants from Kyrgyzstan.
“This year, from 8,000 to 10,000 citizens of Kyrgyzstan had a seasonal work, which contributed to the food security of Great Britain. Protecting the rights of Kyrgyz citizens in the UK is very important. It is planned to launch a project to protect the rights of labour migrants from Kyrgyzstan,” the Ambassador said.
The Ombudswoman and the UK Ambassador agreed on the importance of a prompt joint response in cases of violations of the rights of citizens of Kyrgyzstan in the UK and British citizens in Kyrgyzstan.
