Why did Mahathir Mohammad say ‘I feel like I’m in China’?

The former Prime Minister of Malaysia was angry at the signboard in Chinese in a new shopping mall in Kuala Lumpur. Mahathir Mohamad. On Monday (November 18) in an X post, he expressed his anger by accusing the authorities of inaction.
Mahathir Mohamad wrote on X Post that he saw some shopping malls with large Chinese signboards during his visits during the weekend, especially the new shopping malls. Seeing them, he felt as if he was in China.
Dr. Mahathir criticized the neglect of Malays on the signboards put up by retailers, saying that all the signboards were in Chinese with English translations, with nothing written in Malay. But our national language is Malay. The use of Chinese characters on signboards is fine, but should be limited to lowercase translations.
Under the Advertisements (Federal Territories) Bye-law 1982, bye-law 3(1), all advertisements must be in the national language, but may contain other languages.
Dr. Mahathir called for Bahasa Malaysia to be prioritized as the national language.
