13 killed in mudslide in Thailand

A mudslide has killed at least 13 people, including a Russian couple, in a resort on the Thai island of Phuket. Thai authorities announced the end of the search for the missing on Sunday.

Phuket Governor Sophon Suwannarat said heavy rains last week caused a mudslide near the Big Buddha in Phuket, a popular tourist destination in the southern part of the country. Several people went missing.

Sophon said 13 people were killed in the mudslide incident on Phuket Island. Among them are a Russian couple, nine migrant workers from Myanmar and two Thai nationals. About 20 people were injured and 209 families were affected by the mudslide.

The governor of Phuket said authorities are contacting relatives of the victims and the embassy. Besides, major cleaning work has been started there.
