153 migrants detained in Malaysia

The Immigration Department has arrested 153 migrants, including Bangladeshis, from the state of Selangor, Malaysia. They were arrested during a raid on a construction site housing workers in Section 12 of the state’s Shah Alam area on Thursday.
During the raid, which began at 1am Malaysia time, after checking the documents of a total of 400 migrants, 135 men and 19 women were found guilty of various offences under the Immigration Act 1959/63.
Among those arrested are 64 Bangladeshis, 56 Indonesians, 27 Myanmarese, 5 Nepalese and one Indian national.
Selangor Immigration Director Khairul Amimus Kamarudin said in a statement on Thursday that during the raid, it was found that several floors of the construction site were being used as residential accommodation for foreign workers. The environment was unsanitary, dirty and smelly.
