At least 16 people were killed in an Israeli airstrike on a municipal building in southern Lebanon. Among them is a mayor. More than 50 people were reportedly injured in the attack. The attack was carried out in the Nabatieh region of the country on Wednesday.

Lebanon’s official National News Agency (NNA) confirmed this information on Thursday.

Lebanese officials have strongly condemned the attack, saying it shows that Israel’s recent campaign has shifted to targeting Lebanon. Such activities threaten Lebanon’s internal stability and could have serious implications for national security, officials warn.

Najib Mikati, the country’s caretaker prime minister, said a meeting of the municipal council was underway to discuss the city’s services and relief situation to help people displaced by the Israeli operation. The Israeli forces targeted the meeting.

During a visit to northern Israel near the border with Lebanon, Defense Minister Yoav Galant said that Israel will not stop attacking Hezbollah. In a statement, he also said that Hezbollah is in dire straits. I said one day in Gaza we will only negotiate under fire. Same thing here.
