A total of 30 ‘terrorists’, including two ringleaders, were killed in an operation by security forces in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. Eight more were injured at the same time. The country’s military media wing (ISPR) said this in a statement on Saturday.
The statement said that an operation was conducted in Laxmi Marwat district on Saturday based on secret information. In the operation, firing was carried out targeting the terrorists’ positions. In this, 18 terrorists were killed and six were injured. In addition, eight terrorists were killed in another operation in Karak district.
The third operation was conducted in the Bagh area of Khyber. There, the security forces neutralized four terrorists, including ringleader Azizur Rahman alias Qari Ismail and Mukhlis. Two of their associates were injured in the operation. A huge amount of weapons and ammunition were recovered from the scene.
They were involved in many terrorist activities against the security forces and killing innocent civilians, according to the ISPR.
Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and President Asif Ali Zardari welcomed the operation by the security forces. The Prime Minister said that we will continue to fight terrorism until it is completely eradicated.
Recently, there has been an increase in the activities of the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and other armed groups in the Khyber region. These groups have been seen openly patrolling in various places in the Tirah Valley and have carried out several deadly attacks on security forces.
In this situation, security forces have intensified operations in these areas and set up additional check points to ensure the safety of the local population.
The ISPR said that the security forces are conducting a sanitization operation to ensure that no terrorists remain in the Khyber region.
