Lebanese President Joseph Aoun has warned that “there will be no compromise on Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.”
The warning came after Israeli occupation forces opened fire on residents returning to their homes in southern Lebanon on Sunday.
President Aoun said that there will be no compromise on Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and that he will take this issue to the international level. So that the rights of the Lebanese people are guaranteed.
A 60-day ceasefire in southern Lebanon recently expired. Shortly after, the barbaric Israeli forces opened fire on people returning to their towns and villages along the border. At least 15 people were killed and 83 were injured.
Calling on everyone to remain calm and have confidence in the armed forces in Saturday’s incident, President Aoun said, “We celebrate a just victory with the people of southern Lebanon. The Lebanese army is always by your side and is committed to protecting your security.”
On the other hand, in response to Israel’s violation of the peace process, Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri said that the international community and the countries monitoring the ceasefire agreement must apply pressure on the Israeli forces to withdraw from Lebanese territory as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, two top UN officials have stated that “the situation is not yet suitable” for Lebanese citizens near the border to return home safely.
The top UN official in Lebanon and the head of UN peacekeepers in southern Lebanon said this in a joint statement on Sunday.
At the same time, they also claimed that the deadlines set in the ceasefire agreement in Lebanon have not yet been met.
