Former Pakistan Prime Minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Imran Khan has claimed that the army asked him to apologize for the May 9 riots. Khan said this to reporters while sitting in Adiala jail on Saturday. This information was reported in the news of Pakistani media Dawn on Sunday.
A few journalists spoke informally with Imran Khan in Adiala Jail. At that time, the journalists said, the army asked those responsible for the violent protests on May 9 to apologize. Journalists want to know from Khan whether he will apologize or not. In response to their question, Khan said, there is no reason to apologize. Because Khan considers himself innocent in this incident.
Khan was arrested on May 9 last year. At that time, his supporters got excited and attacked various infrastructures of the army. The army asked Khan to apologize for the attack.
He said he was arrested by Rangers led by a full-time Major General from the Islamabad High Court premises. But since May 7, ISPR Director General Major General Ahmed Sharif has said that any dialogue with the PTI is possible if the party apologizes for its politics of anarchy. But Khan repeatedly refused to apologize. At that time he was not even willing to sit in dialogue with the army. However, he recently stepped down from his position.
Over the past few weeks, he has repeatedly expressed his desire to talk to the army and not the government. According to him, talks with the government are a futile exercise. So he will discuss only with real authorities.
