Lebanon’s powerful armed group Hezbollah launched a drone attack on a military base in northern Israel. Israel confirmed the attack. Hezbollah claimed that Israeli soldiers were killed and wounded in this attack.

Al Jazeera reported this information on Monday (August 5).

Hezbollah said it attacked the barracks of the Israeli military’s 91st Division in Ayelet Hashahar with drones. The pro-Iranian Lebanese armed group also claimed that Israeli soldiers were killed and wounded in this direct attack.

The Israeli military confirmed the attack. But they described it as a rocket attack and said two soldiers were “moderately injured” in the attack.

Israel’s air defenses intercepted rockets fired from Lebanon, the military said, but firefighters were working to put out the blaze that had spread to the area.

Italy and Turkey, meanwhile, have advised their citizens to leave Lebanon amid fears of rising tensions following the killings of Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran and Hezbollah’s top commander Fouad Shoukr in Beirut.

Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani urged Italians in Lebanon to “return to Italy on commercial flights as soon as possible” and not to travel to the south of the country “due to the existing situation”.

On the other hand, Turkey’s foreign ministry advised its citizens in Lebanon to “exercise caution and not travel to Nabatih, South Lebanon, Bekaa and Baalbek-Hermel regions unless absolutely necessary.”

The statement advised citizens to leave Lebanon “unless there is an unavoidable reason”.

Since the start of the Hamas-Israeli conflict on October 7, Hezbollah and Israel’s military have been regularly exchanging fire on the border. It was the worst violence on the Israeli-Lebanese border since the 2006 war between Hezbollah and Israel.

According to the latest information from the news agency AFP, at least 542 people have been killed in Lebanon since October 7 last year in this fight between Hezbollah and Israel. Most of the dead were Hezbollah fighters. Besides, 114 civilians are also among the dead.

On the other hand, a total of 47 Israelis including 22 Israeli soldiers and 25 civilians were killed in the attack by Hezbollah. Besides, hundreds of thousands of people have been displaced on both sides of the border due to regular shelling.
