Several rebel groups have put up fierce resistance against the army in different parts of Myanmar. The junta has already collapsed under the control of the rebels. This time Myanmar’s Muslims, Buddhists and Christians have united to overthrow the junta.
Qatar-based media Al Jazeera reported this information on Saturday.
According to reports, fighters from the rebel group are checking cars and trucks heading towards the city in the Taninthari area of southern Myanmar, which is under the control of the military.
After the seizure of power by the junta in 2021, the followers of different religious groups have been fighting against them unitedly despite their differences in terms of religious beliefs. The men manning these checkpoints in the country are members of the little-known ‘Muslim Company’, which has joined the struggle for democracy in Myanmar as part of the Karen National Union (KNU), a Christian and Buddhist-dominated armed group.
These fighters from Taninthari were formally named as the Third Company of Brigade-IV. There are 130 Muslim soldiers in this part. They joined thousands of fighters to overthrow the junta.
Al Jazeera reported that they visited the headquarters of this unit in an undisclosed location in the mountainous area of southern Myanmar. Muslim Company leader Mohammad Aisher, referring to the armed resistance movement that has long fought against Myanmar’s military, said some areas have been targeted because ethnic groups have their own state.
He also said that no single group rules these areas. But military repression affects all groups. Muslims and everyone else will be oppressed as long as the military exists. Eicher said the acceptance of diversity among anti-junta forces would help reduce cultural and regional tensions. which previously led to conflict in Myanmar.
Myanmar has been ruled by the military-backed State Administration Council (SAC) since Aung San Suu Kyi’s elected government was ousted in a military coup in February 2021. Violence erupted in Myanmar after the military coup.
Recently, armed ethnic groups and the rebel People’s Defense Force (PDF) have been fighting with the army in various parts of the country. Armed groups have taken control of large swathes of Myanmar since the offensive began in October last year when they joined forces to carry out major attacks.
According to some international news, junta forces now control less than half of Myanmar’s territory. As a result, the junta is under pressure.
