Indonesia’s Mount Ibu erupted with a loud explosion. The eruption happened on Sunday (April 28). The explosion was so powerful that it spread panic in the area. Then common people came out of their houses and started running to save their lives. It is also reported that ash was seen over an area of about 3.5 km.

The Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) said the eruption occurred on Halmahera Island in North Maluku province in eastern Indonesia. The mountain erupted for about 206 seconds. The eruption occurred at 12:37 local time. As a result, ash rose up to 3,500 meters from the top of the mountain.

Mount Ibu Volcano is located at an altitude of 1,325 meters above sea level. The volcano is classified as a second hazard level below the highest level four.

PVMBG, meanwhile, has instructed locals not to do any activity within a 3.5 km radius of the crater (mouth of the volcano).

Officials advised residents to wear masks and goggles when leaving their homes.

The eruption of Mount Ruang in North Sulawesi earlier this month led to the evacuation of thousands of people. Meanwhile, Sam Ratulangi International Airport in the city of Manado, more than 100 kilometers (62 miles) from the crater, was closed for several days.
