Thailand’s businessmen are invited to invest in Bangladesh

The foreign minister urged the business community of Thailand to invest in Bangladesh. Hasan Mahmud. He made this call at a business meeting organized by the Bangladesh Embassy in Bangkok on Friday (April 26).

In the meeting, the foreign minister emphasized on the potential of trade and investment between Bangladesh and Thailand. He said that the significant progress of Bangladesh in all indicators of socio-economic development in the last 15 years and the successful graduation of Bangladesh from the Least Developed Country (LDC) status was due to the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

The Foreign Minister highlighted the importance of Thailand as an important trade partner for Bangladesh in the ASEAN region.

Hasan Mahmood expressed satisfaction with the signing of the Letter of Intent (LOI) for free trade agreement (FTA) between the two countries. He urged the Thai private sector to take full advantage of various government incentives for business, investment and partnership which would ultimately contribute to the overall development and prosperity of Bangladesh’s economy.

Besides, the foreign minister stressed on increasing people-to-people contacts as a way to strengthen the ties between Bangladesh and Thailand.

At this time, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s adviser on private industry and investment Salman Fazlur Rahman gave details about the incentives given by the Bangladesh government for foreign investors. He opined that the Bangladesh government could benefit from technology transfer from the Thai government and invited Thai investment in Bangladesh’s tourism sector.

Finance Minister Abul Hasan Mahmud Ali, Interior Minister Asaduzzaman Khan, Commerce State Minister Ahsanul Islam Titu and Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen were also present in the meeting. In addition, prominent businessmen of Thailand were present at the meeting.

Bangladesh Ambassador to Thailand Abdul Hai thanked everyone for attending the event. At that time, Thailand’s ambassador to Bangladesh Makawadi Sumitmore was present.
